Honeywell to Support European ATM Research Project
The European Commission has
awarded Honeywell a contract to support its development of an automated ATM (air
traffic management) system in Europe based on advanced airborne CNS
(communication, navigation and surveillance) technologies.
Honeywell's role will be to support the EC's
iFLY research project, which is attempting to develop an advanced airborne
self-separation design and a highly automated ATM. The undertaking, which is led
by the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), aims to improve efficiency and
reduced delays in Europe for aircraft operating in high density traffic areas.
More specifically, Honeywell will analyze pilot and controller responsibilities, along with their
safety and complexity, as well as a subsequent assessment of ground and airborne
system requirements.
IFLY was initiated under the EC's
Sixth Framework Program for Research. 11-15-2007. |
