Honeywell to Provide A350XWB's Flight Management and Surveillance Systems
Airbus will use Honeywell's FMS (flight management system) and
AEES (aircraft environment surveillance system) on its new long-range, wide-body
A350XWB.
AESS combines Honeywell's
TCAS (traffic alert collision avoidance system), Mode S (select) transponders,
EGPWS (enhanced ground proximity warning system) and RDR-4000 3-D volumetric
weather radar, into a single unit. Honeywell says the system, which is already
on the A380, will be enhanced for the A350XWB. It is the first and only
integrated surveillance system to obtain FAA TSO (technical standard order)
approval, Honeywell says.
According to Honeywell, its
RDR-4000 radar is the first and only weather radar system certified to the
FAA's MOPS (minimum operation performance standard) for enhanced turbulence
detection out to 320 nautical miles, and its
FMS will be capable of RNP (required navigation performance) procedures.
