Honeywell Will Provide R&D Expertise for Air Force's JPALS
The U.S. Air Force has selected Honeywell to provide research and development expertise for the its
JPALS (joint precision approach and landing system) aimed at achieving a
land-based DGPS (differential global positioning system) that will enhance GPS
signals sufficiently to enable category II and III approaches.
Specifically, Honeywell will perform software development studies and conduct program analysis
to help the
Air Force develop concept and architecture solutions for its JPALS program,
under a $5.2 million research and development contract.
JPALS is intended to use DGPS to provide rapidly deployable, mobile, day-night, all weather precision
approach and landing capability for all branches of the U.S. military, and
replace various legacy approach and landing systems with a single system. The
system would also be interoperable with Honeywell's civil GBAS (ground based
augmentation system) slated to be approved by the FAA for category I approaches
in 2008.
Honeywell's team, which received a $4.2 million contract in March to support the U.S. Navy's sea-based
JPALS program, includes Sierra Nevada, Boeing, and QinetiQ. 08-17-2007. |
