Honeywell Receives TSO for Its Latest Retrofit-Capable Primus Epic
Honeywell received TSO
(technical standard order) approval for its latest retrofit version of its
Primus Epic control display system that will enable the viewing of
electronic charts and weather information delivered via satellite.
The company says its new
CDS/R (control display system/retrofit), known as "Phase IV," improves the
interface functionality of current
Epic MFD (multi-function display) and FMS (flight management system) by
adding an advanced file graphics server LRU (line replaceable unit).
The new system, which
will become available in this year's third quarter and will fit about a
dozen aircraft platforms, includes features such as the ability to split the
electronic chart windows and to independently control panning and zoom. It
also will have:
- Color 8X10 inch
AMLCDs (active matrix liquid crystal displays).
- Scalable
architecture to accommodate two, three, or four display configurations.
- The ability to grow
with emerging CNS/ATM (communications, navigation, surveillance and air
traffic management) operational and environmental requirements.
In addition, it will save
weight, wire and power through system integration, and increase reliability
by reducing the number of LRUs and increasing the use of LCD technology.
Because the CDS/R evolved
from Honeywell's Primus 1000 and 2000, it uses the same IC-600 and new
IC-615 IAC (integrated avionics computer) platform, to give it a high
degree of system integration and functionality, Honeywell says, as well as
the reliability of a mature system. 05-29-2007. |
