Honeywell RAAS Authorized for Gulfstream PlaneView
The FAA has
certified Honeywell's RAAS (runway awareness and advisory system) for all large
cabin Gulfstream PlaneView flight decks with Honeywell's Primus Epic
architecture.
Honeywell expects RAAS, a safety system designed to improve situational awareness and to
help reduce runway incursions, will be an option for Gulfstream G450s and G550s
this year.
RAAS compares the aircraft's GPS
location against a database of airport runways to provide aural advisories
covering a variety of situations including:
-
When entering a
runway, and when on a runway.
-
An optional
identification of the landing runway when on final approach.
-
The runway
distance remaining following a rejected take-off or when landing long.
-
An inadvertent
take-off attempt from a taxiway.
-
A take-off from
a short runway or approach to land on a short runway.
-
When the
airplane sits on a runway for an extended period of time.
Rob Wilson, the president of
Honeywell Business and General Aviation, notes that, "RAAS is in more than 1,400
business aircraft and 700 commercial aircraft around the world." 10-03-2007. |
