Honeywell Delivers New Helicopter Navigation System to Sterling Aviation
Honeywell has delivered a new navigation system, called Sentinel,
to Sterling Aviation for use with the East Anglian Air Ambulance service on its Eurocopter BK117.
The new Sentinel system provides mapping, relative terrain and
traffic information, plus checklists, to which Honeywell plans to add approach
plates and vertical profiles, as well as user-configurable databases, satcom and XM Weather.
Mel White Fraes, the director of Honeywell's U.K.-based Mission
Systems, describes Sentinel as a multi-function display and navigation system
for helicopters that is part of Honeywell's Integrated Safety Solutions program
that offers navigation technologies from the company's IHAS (integrated hazard awareness system).
Sentinel is available in several configurations, including NVG
(night vision guidance) options - all of which are ETSO (European technical
standards order) certified. It can operate as a stand-alone panel mounted MFD
(multifunction display)/navigator, remote processor or as an integrated element
of Honeywell's Observer MKIII mission system.
The Observer MKIII is an
integrated navigation, command, and control system that interfaces to multiple
on board displays and sensors, including cameras, DF (direction finding)
equipment, AIS (automatic identification system) shipping transponders, satcom,
and flight management systems. 03-01-2008. |
