Germany's DFS Approves Transtech's Ground Surveillance and Display System
Germany's Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) granted Transtech Control a type approval for the company's
CAMS (ground surveillance and display system) based on European and ICAO A-SMGCS
(advanced-surface movement guidance and control system) and SMR (surface
movement radar) operational and functional standards.
According to
Transtech, CAMS's distributed cluster of MWS (millimeter wave sensors)
operating in the 76-77 GHz frequency band presents a unique approach for a
non-cooperative A-SMGCS. Because of their low transmission power, the MWS units
meet the European R&TTE (radio and telecommunications terminal equipment) "class
one" category standard and may be installed at any location at the airport
without a license.
CAMS fuses data from multiple sensors and integrates all MWS data with other external surveillance
systems and operational systems including PSR/SSR (primary and secondary
surveillance radar), and flight plan data, into one integrated traffic picture
for the air traffic controller. And its non-cooperative surveillance capability
gives an airport a complete runway safety net with no aircraft additional
equipment.
Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is currently commissioning CAMS, and expects it to achieve operational status in
the first quarter of 2008. London's Luton and Madrid's Barajas airports also
have CAMS installations. 11-23-2007. |
