Garmin to Offer New ADS-B Capabilities for GA Transponders
Garmin will make 1090 MHz ES (extended squitter) transmission
capabilities an optional upgrade for two of its popular general aviation
transponders.
The addition of 1090 MHz ES to Garmin's
GTX 330 and
GTX 33 Mode S transponders will allow equipped aircraft to automatically
transmit position, velocity and heading information, which will provide superior
surveillance capability for air traffic control, and is a foundation element of
the FAA's NextGen (next generation) air traffic management system).
Gary Kelley, Garmin's vice president of marketing, said,
"Providing a 1090 MHz ES to the general aviation market will increase
situational awareness and safety of flight once the ADS-B system is fully
implemented," adding that Garmin intends to ensure that its products are
evolving towards that future.
Garmin says the upgrade doesn't change existing GTX 330 and GTX 33 features, including
Mode S TIS (traffic information service) reception. 07-30-2007. |
