GB Airways to launch Rockwell Collins dPAVES IFE
GB Airways will be the
launch customer for Rockwell Collins' new IFE (in-flight entertainment)
system. The British Airways' low-cost franchise selected the system for
seven A320 Family aircraft, along with options for seven more. Hardware
deliveries will begin this coming October.
The dPAVES system, which
Rockwell Collins introduced in September 2006, is the digital version of its
PAVES programmable audio video entertainment system.
On GB Airways' aircraft,
the dPAVES system will feature 10-inch retractable LCDs (liquid crystal
displays), and the integration of Rockwell Collins'
Airshow 4200 moving map product into its system server to save space,
weight and power, in addition to the 85 percent reduction in volume, a 70
percent reduction in weight and a 75 percent reduction in power over the
analog system.
The GB system will enable
with up to 60 hours of video, including encrypted content, and 128 hours of
audio on a 160 gigabyte hard drive, which can be delivered via an onboard
data loader. Fifty gigabytes of video and audio programming can be loaded
via a single Blu-ray DVD (digital video disc), and automatically transferred
to the server, while simultaneously presenting entertainment to the
passengers. In addition, dPAVES can automatically tailor programming for the
length of the route. 04-22-2007. |
