FlightStats Introducing Google Map-Based Flight Tracker

FlightStats is introducing a flight tracking system that allows one to see the geographic location and other flight data of an airline flight over North America on a Google map.

By entering the name of the pertinent airline along with either a departure or arrival city, the FlightStats tracker will display the flight's position and flight data information on Google's standard, satellite or hybrid geographical displays.

The free interactive Web application refreshes automatically as the flight progresses.  Companion screens show weather information in both the arrival and departure cities and issues alerts for any airport delays.  Other information displayed below the map includes the historical on-time arrival rating for the monitored flight, its scheduled and actual departure time, and its estimated arrival time.

Viewers can click through to get more flight details and set up alerts to deliver updates to a mobile phone or personal computer.  The service is free and requires no login.  09-20-2007.
