FAA Names Vicki Cox to Oversee Its Modernization Efforts
The FAA has named Vicki Cox to a new position of senior vice president of NextGen and
operations planning, where she will oversee the modernization efforts of the agency.
Ms. Cox previously served as a vice president of the FAA's Air Traffic Organization.
In addition to providing increased focus on the modernization of the nation's air traffic
control system through the NextGen plan, Ms. Cox's new position will incorporate
the Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO), which helps coordinate the
efforts of several federal departments and agencies, including the Departments
of Transportation (which includes the FAA), Defense, Commerce and Homeland
Security, as well as NASA.
It is apparent that the agency is moving to put more emphasis on initiatives that will
see concrete results sooner than has resulted from the JPDO, which has been more
visionary-in-approach. "Given the aviation community's increasing need for
faster modernization of our air traffic control system, we must implement
NextGen at a quicker pace," said Acting FAA Administrator Robert A. Sturgell,
who added that JPDO would continue its focus on long-term research and
development. 05-27-2008. |
