FAA Certifies Universal Avionics WAAS-FMS on Bombardier CL-600 Series
The FAA has issued a Part 25 STC (supplemental type certificate) to Universal
Avionics Systems for its new FMSs (flight management systems) enabled for WAAS
and SBAS (wide area and space-based augmentation systems) on Bombardier CL-600s,
CL-601s and CL-601-3Rs.
Universal's new generation WAAS/SBAS-enabled FMSs include the UNS-1Lw, UNS-1Ew,
UNS-1Espw, and UNS-1Fw, all of which are now available for business, commercial,
and regional aircraft, according to the company.
In addition to being capable of LNAV/VNAV (lateral navigation with vertical
guidance) approaches, Universal says its new WAAS-FMS could be used to fly over
700 SBAS WAAS/LPV approaches the FAA has already published with minima as low as
200 feet and ½-mile visibility.
According to the FAA's
Navigation Services Website, these precision approaches are now available to properly equipped aircraft because of
the new L5 GPS civil signal that became available in 2007 to augment the
previous existing L1 signal for necessary integrity data.
Universal's
WAAS-FMS uses SBAS to improve the accuracy, availability and integrity of
its GPS-derived position, thereby increasing navigation capabilities for all
classes of aircraft in all phases of flight. 02-13-2008. |
