FAA Certifies L-3's Integrated Flight Controls and Display System on SR22

The FAA has granted L-3 Communications Avionics Systems' SmartDeck integrated flight controls and display system a STC (supplemental type certificate) for its Cirrus Design's SR22 G2 installation.  L-3 was also awarded a TSO (technical standard order) for the system.

SmartDeck integrates a number of situational awareness technologies that provide data on navigation, traffic avoidance, terrain avoidance, communication, flight controls, engine parameters and enhanced vision, many of which come from the integration of L-3's products.  The system is scalable and designed for installation on new general aviation aircraft, such as the SR22, through turboprops and light jets, such as Cirrus's own "the jet," currently being developed.

L-3 says its goal for SmartDeck was to create a simple user interface and a menu that could allow pilots to accomplish functions and access pertinent information in "three clicks or less."

L-3 Avionics also will offer the STC through authorized dealers for retrofit.  05-26-2008.
