FAA Approves Universal Avionics' WAAS-FMS
The FAA granted Universal Avionics a TSO (technical standard order) approval for its "W"
series WAAS-FMS (wide area augmentation system-flight management system), that
Universal offers for business, commercial, and regional aircraft.
The FAA's action makes
Universal's UNS-1Lw, UNS-1Ew, UNS-1Espw, and UNS-1Fw FMS units capable of
non-precision and LNAV/VNAV (lateral and vertical navigation) approaches. It
also makes it possible for them to obtain operational approvals for all of the SBAS (satellite-based augmentation system) LPV (localizer performance with
vertical guidance) approaches the FAA has published so far, as well as those yet
to come.
"Universal Avionics' new line of WAAS FMS systems meet FAA TSO 146b and DO229D offering the very first WAAS
FMS with an embedded 3D solution for aircraft ranging from PC-12s to Boeing 747s
without the need for add-on sensors, making them ideal for application in both
the forward fit and retrofit markets," said Paul DeHerrera, Universal's vice
president of marketing and product support. 09-28-2007. |
