Europe Endorses New ECAC Airspace Strategy
Civilian and military representatives of aviation regulators and ANSPs (air
navigation service providers) from 24 European states have endorsed a new
European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) airspace strategy.
ICAO, the U.S. FAA, and a number of airlines have supported the plan as well.
The proposed strategy sets out Europe's airspace concept for 2015, how it will be
achieved, and what enablers are needed to make it happen. It will be submitted
for approval at the next meeting of the EATM (European air traffic management)
SCG (stakeholder consultation group).
Proponents see the plan as providing an important connection between Eurocontrol's
DMEAN (dynamic management of the European airspace network), which aims to
increase airspace capacity and efficiency with new planning and management concepts, and
SESAR (single European sky ATM research), which is working to synchronize
the ATM activities of Europe's industry and government.
Europe's action on the ECAC strategy comes nearly the same time as Eurocontrol's
recent decision to accept a SESAR planning document for implementing three
ATM (air traffic management) packages, also designed to increase airspace
capacity and efficiency starting this year. 02-11-2008. |
