Eurocontrol Simulates Airspace Reconfiguration Scenarios
Eurocontrol conducted a large scale multi-center real-time simulation to validate new FAB (functional airspace
block) airspace and route scenarios in April.
The AMRUFRA (Amsterdam, Ruhr and Frankfurt) project covered the airspace area controlled by Amsterdam, Langen
and Maastricht, and included both civil and military operations. The three-week
simulation started on April 7th and involved 25 controllers.
One of the simulation's important purposes was to examine the consequences of the introduction of a new
runway at Frankfurt and its potential for increasing the complexity of aircraft
routings in the region.
In addition, Eurocontrol wanted the simulation to validate some of the expected capacity, efficiency and
safety benefits of the new FAB. 05-03-2008. |
