Eurocontrol Assess Progress of Its ANSP Safety Management Systems
Eurocontrol met this past
week with representatives from eight European air navigation service
providers (ANSPs) to assess their progress on complying with a new Single
European Sky directive that requires that their safety management systems be
examined.
The two-day review
meeting looked at how well the ANSPs have implemented their safety
management systems, and what additional steps need to be undertaken to
ensure that they will meet the certification criteria by the end of the
year. Participants at the meeting included ANSP representatives from
Romania, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Armenia, Slovenia, Malta, and Cyprus.
Eurocontrol has been
working closely with the ANSPS over the past year to prepare them for this
process. Four working sessions and six training courses were conducted on
safety issues during this period and more than 120 persons were trained.
Over the next year,
Eurocontrol will organize another five working sessions on various aspects
of safety management systems, and will deliver another 10 training sessions.
"The aim of this project
is to ensure a rapid yet thorough implementation of safety management
systems in Europe," according to Gilles Le Galo,
who is managing the project. Mr. Le Galo added
that Eurocontrol is also using the working sessions to develop a Eurocontrol
Generic Safety Management Manual that will be on its Website by June 2006.
