Era and HITT to Provide Surveillance over Part of North Sea
The Dutch air navigation service provider (ANSP), Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland (LVNL) has selected Era
and its partner, the Holland Institute of Traffic Technology (HITT), to provide
Era's surveillance system in the Netherlands North Sea area.
LVNL wants to gather surveillance information on traffic - mainly helicopters, but some military and
general aviation - equipped with Mode S (select) and ADS-B (automatic dependent
surveillance-broadcast) transponders that fly in the area, especially to and
from offshore platforms.
Era says the ANSP viewed its
MSS
system, which combines multilateration and ADS-B with multi-ranging techniques,
as well suited to provide the accurate surveillance coverage of aircraft flying
at low altitudes in adverse weather conditions it needs.
Since MSS is a modular system, Era says it's easily adaptable to any wide area requirement and is
virtually impervious to all environmental challenges. This allows Era to place
the MSS sensors on land, as well as on offshore platforms to obtain optimal
surveillance coverage.
Era believes MSS provides higher position accuracy, faster update rates, better coverage and improved
reliability, than traditional radars, and does so at a much lower initial
acquisition cost, and "greatly reduced annual maintenance costs."
In 2006, LVNL selected Era to provide Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport with a vehicle tracking segment of its A-SMGCS
(advanced surface movement and guidance control system). 11-14-2007. |
