Eclipse Revises List of Avionics Suppliers on VLJ
Eclipse Aviation is
partnering with Innovative Solutions & Support, Inc. (IS&S), Chelton Flight
Systems, Garmin International, Honeywell, and PS Engineering, Inc. to
produce a "next-generation" avionics system for its Eclipse 500 VLJ (very
light jet).
The new avionics system,
called
"Avio
NG" will be an improved version of Eclipse 500's Avio Total
Aircraft Integration, and is scheduled for production and delivery this
summer. Eclipse says it will retrofit all Eclipse 500 aircraft with Avio NG
by the end of 2007, ensuring a homogeneous Eclipse 500 fleet.
Eclipse Aviation will
continue to serve as the systems integrator for the overall Avio NG system,
but is employing what it calls the "best-of-breed" partners. Here is a
summary of their component contributions:
-
IS&S
will provide hardware and select software
for the aircraft's two
PFDs and MFD (primary flight displays an multi-function display)
that will replace those previously supplied by Avidyne.
-
Chelton Flight Systems will provide
the aircraft's FMS (flight management system) that will be integrated
into Avio, with flight guidance algorithms that will include GPS-based
LNAV and VNAV (lateral and vertical navigation).
-
Garmin International
will provide remotely mounted dual
GTX 33 and GTX 33D level-2 EHS (Mode S enhanced surveillance)
transponders with datalink capability.
-
Honeywell
will supply its new
Primus Apex KTR 2280 multi-mode digital radios (MMDR), consisting of
digital VHF navigation receivers, and an optional ADF (automatic
direction finding) receiver. Each MMDR includes one transmitter and six
receivers, capable of 8.33/25 kHz channel-spacing operation and
simultaneous monitoring of two VHF communication frequencies. The KTR
2280 will be integrated into Avio NG, to give users the ability to
manage their radios through the aircraft's PFDs and MFD. Honeywell will
also provide its
RDR 2000 weather radar system and an optional KGP 560 terrain
awareness system (TAWS).
-
PS Engineering
will provide its digitally controlled PMA500 remote
audio control system (the PMA500 isn't currently depicted) that will
interface with Avio to provide radio and navigation audio selection as
well as intercom and mode control. It also has an integrated marker
beacon receiver. The audio control panel includes split transmit
capability, hi-fi stereo in-flight entertainment inputs, and IntelliVOX,
a patented squelch protocol that completely eliminates manual intercom
squelch, adjusting dynamically to cockpit sound conditions.
