AEROTHAI Launches ATFM Services for Afghanistan Overflights
AEROTHAI (Aeronautical Radio of Thailand) has begun operating ATFM (air traffic flow
management) services for westbound aircraft from South and Southeast Asia
airports transiting Afghanistan airspace to destinations in Europe.
The regional service involves coordination between several countries with diverse
capabilities that control between 50 to 60 westbound aircraft from over 30
airlines. Each of these flights are now required to register a slot request with
a secure Web-based computer system known as BOBCAT (Bay of Bengal cooperative
air traffic flow management system), which allocates slots at specific
Afghanistan entry points, including required time and flight level.
According to AEROTHAI, the new service is the first of its kind over such a large area in
Asia and arguably the first of its kind in the world. 07-18-2007. |
