EASA Certifies OnAir's Mobile Phones for In-Flight Use on A318s
The European Aviation Safety
Authority (EASA) has certified the use of airborne GSM (global system for
mobile) equipment on the A318, clearing the way for OnAir to offer its services.
Benoit Debains, OnAir's CEO
said, "The airborne equipment has been designed to meet the specific needs of
the aviation environment.... [And its] certification is a major milestone in the
process of bringing our service to market."
OnAir's service will be launched by Air
France, followed by bmi and TAP (of Portugal), according to the company. All
three airlines will run single aircraft commercial trials on Airbus aircraft,
which will allow them to fine-tune their passenger communications offerings and
evaluate it before embarking on a fuller-scale deployment. The first fleet
deployment of OnAir's services will be on Ryanair's B-737s. 06-23-2007. |
