EASA Approves CFM56-Powered A318s for Steep Approaches

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has approved A318s, including the A318 Elite, fitted with CFM International CFM56 engines for so-called steep approaches.  EASA approved the same airplanes powered with Pratt and Whitney PW6000 engines this past June.

This certification allows these Airbus models to operate into airports such as London City, where stringent anti-noise rules are used.  Steep approaches follow a 5.5 degree approach path instead of the usual three degrees.  11-25-2007.
