Doha International to Use QinetiQ's Runway Debris Detection System

Doha International Airport confirmed at the recent Dubai Airshow that it is installing QinetiQ's Tarsier runway debris detection system.

The State of Qatar airport will use Tarsier to monitor its single 4,572- meter-long runway, which is one of the longest in the world, for FOD (foreign object debris).

Tarsier uses a network of high frequency, high resolution radars, along with integrated digital signal processing, and a central user display, to give airport operators the ability to continuously inspect runway surfaces day or night, in all weather conditions, with no disruption to aircraft movements.

A new Doha International Airport is currently under construction and is expected to open in 2009.  QinetiQ and Qatar Airways are currently in negotiations about the potential installation of a Tarsier system to cover the airport's two runways when they become operational.  11-24-2007.
