Continental to Equip Entire Fleet with EFBs Using Jeppesen Applications
Continental Airlines will equip its entire fleet of aircraft with EFBs (electronic flight bags) using
Jeppesen applications and data.
Jeppesen and Continental recently finalized an agreement for the air carrier's entire current fleet of
368 aircraft, including the class-3 EFBs on its two new B-777ERs. The 25
additional B-787s the carrier has on order will come equipped with class-3
systems as well. The carriers other fleet types will be retrofitted with
class-2 EFBs.
"The EFB will help us run more efficiently," said Fred Abbott, Continental's vice president of flight
operations. "We chose to partner with Jeppesen on this important strategic
initiative because they provide us with a product during our transition to the
EFB that can be built upon in an electronic environment."
Jeppesen will continue supplying paper services as the carrier gradually shifts its fleet to
electronic applications and services that will include
Jeppesen's standard terminal charts for EFBs, airport moving map, onboard
performance tool, a document viewer, and a locally-hosted version of Jeppesen'
Data Distribution and Management system that will deliver the flight data
and administer software configuration management.
