Continental Is First U.S. Carrier to Equip B-777s with Class-3 EFBs
Continental Airlines says it will be the first
U.S. carrier to use Boeing's class-3 EFB (electronic flight bag) on its new
B-777ERs. The airline will also retrofit its previously purchased 777s.
Boeing's EFB is integrated into an airplane's avionics, and is certified
for all phases of operation on the ground and in the air. It uses software
developed by Boeing and its subsidiary, Jeppesen, but provides a scalable,
open-architecture platform that allows a customer airline to add its own
documents or third-party applications.
Mark Moran, Continental's executive vice president of operations, said that Continental has a "companywide initiative
to be paperless wherever possible," and using Boeing's EFB on its 777s is
consistent with that philosophy. 05-04-2007. |
