Cobham to Acquire S-TEC

Cobham plc, which operates as a worldwide supplier to aviation companies, is purchasing S-TEC Corporation from Meggitt plc for $38 million (U.S.).  The purchase should be completed before end of the year, following regulatory approval.

S-TEC, based in Mineral Wells, Texas, designs, certifies and manufactures autopilots for general aviation and single-engine commuter aircraft, with a workforce of 180 people.

Cobham said it believes S-TEC capabilities fit well with how it wants to address a market that it sees as moving towards the inclusion of autopilots in EFIS (electronic flight instrument system) displays to reduce weight, wiring and integration costs. In addition, S-TEC has a strong presence in the retrofit market which Cobham can leverage, and is well positioned with many OEMs (original equipment manufacturers, including Adam, Cirrus, Eclipse, Piper and Pilatus.  12-03-2007.
