China Planning Substantial Increase in Airports
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) is planning to substantially
expand the number of China's airports by 2020.
The ambitious plan, which calls for 43 new airports by 2010, for a total of 190,
and 54 more by 2020, for a total of 244, is meant to ensure that 82 percent of
the country's population lives within 100km of an airport by the end of this
century's second decade. About 60 percent of China's population currently
enjoys that convenience.
The 2010 goal is expected to cost $19.2 billion (U.S.), and $62.4 billion will be needed for the entire
project. 01-30-2008. |
