China Eastern Airlines Selects Rockwell Collins' dPAVES IFE
China Eastern Airlines (CAE) selected Rockwell Collins dPAVES digital IFE (in-flight entertainment) system
for six new B-737-800s, and 30 A320s it has on order. The airline's choice marks
the debut of Rockwell Collins' dPAVES on Boeing aircraft.
CEA's dPAVES system will feature a 160 gigabyte BDS (broadcast digital server), including the industry's
first integrated 3D Airshow moving map application, which can be customized with
an Airshow configuration editor; 10-inch retractable LCDs (liquid crystal
displays; Rockwell Collins' FDL (flyable data loader); and the ability to
automatically deliver programming that timed for the length of route being flown.
According to Rockwell Collins, its
dPAVES system provides up to an 85 percent reduction in volume, a 70 percent reduction in weight and a 75 percent reduction
in power over the analog system. Additionally, dPAVES offers more storage
capability than other digital players, with up to 60 hours of video, including
encrypted content, and 128 hours of audio on a 160 gigabyte hard drive.
The large storage capability allows China Eastern Airlines to store two play periods of entertainment
content, and the server automatically selects the new content when the new play
period starts. 01-16-2008. |
