Cargolux Pilots Using Lufthansa's Web-Based Flight Training

Cargolux pilots are receiving some of their required refresher instruction from Lufthansa Flight Training (LFT) via the Internet.

According to LFT, all 350 of Cargolux's B-747 pilots will have completed the "ground" portion of their recurrent training via its Web-based eLearning courses by the end of this year, and will no longer be required to be physically present at a training center.

Cargolux pilots access Lufthansa's training programs via a special portal at www.onlinetrainingport.com.  These Web-based programs are significantly different from traditional computer-based courses, Lufthansa maintains, because of their additional value-added functionalities.  For example, with eLearning, an LFT instructor can easily (with a click of the mouse) gain an overview of a student's training status to facilitate crew planning and the scheduling of prescribed checks.  04-29-2005.
