British Airways Upgrading IFE with AVOD and Other Features
British Airways will
upgrade its Rockwell Collins' TES (total entertainment system) on its 57
B-747s, 25 B-777s and 14 B-767s with AVOD (audio/video on demand), daily
digital news and audio jukebox capabilities.
The upgrade, which should
be completed by December 2007, is part of a series of product investments
the airline has planned over the next two years.
Rockwell Collins
describes
TES as a digital system, built on an interactive platform, with a
modular design to give airlines an economical growth path to functionalities
such as AVOD, audio jukebox, SMS (short message service), and fiber channel
content loading. Its plug-and-play capability enables quick and easy
upgrades without changing or replacing wires, distribution or seat
electronics.
TES is now installed on
over 400 aircraft on more than 20 airlines worldwide, according to Rockwell
Collins. 02-06-2006.
