Bangalore's New International Airport Deploying SITA's Baggage Reconciliation System
The new Bangalore International Airport that is to open next March is deploying SITA's integrated
passenger-baggage reconciliation system - a first for India.
SITA's end-to-end system combines bar codes, a WLAN (wireless local area network), and redundant IP
(Internet protocol)-based global connectivity to ensure delivery reliability.
The Bangalore system is comprised of SITA's BagManager and BagMessage components.
BagManager interfaces with an airport's
check-in and baggage sorting systems, and also integrates with its flight
information systems for updates on aircraft loading. In addition, it can be
linked to an airport's security systems to verify that bags have been screened
for explosives or other threats, and it reconciles passengers with their bags to
conform with ICAO's Annex 17-security requirement prohibiting the carriage of accompanied baggage.
BagMessage ensures the latest
information about passenger bags is available whenever and wherever needed.
Almost all airlines using Bangalore are also customers of SITA's
WorldTracer, which along with IATA, provides a single shared database of
lost and mishandled bags for some 400 airlines and other users. 12-03-2007. |
