Avidyne Extends Weather Detection System Capability to More Displays
Avidyne Corporation is offering a "compatibility mode" for its TWX670 tactical weather detection system
that allows its monochromatic lightning strike and storm cell information to be
presented on a number of existing displays from other manufacturers.
The
TWX 670's normal RS-232 output protocol supports its TWxCell and Color
Strike modes on compatible displays that include Avidyne's own EX500, EX5000 and
MHD300. But its "compatibility mode," now provides seven discrete RS-232 output
ports to drive multiple Avidyne MFDs, (multifunction displays) or any
combination of compatible 3rd-party MFD or EFB (electronic flight bag)
displays. These other display options now include Garmin's GNS400/500 series,
Honeywell's KMDX50-series MFDs, and Sandel's SN3308 and SN3500-series EHSIs
(electronic horizontal situation indicators).
The TWX670 has been certified by both the FAA and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and is currently
available for retrofit in fixed-and-rotary-wing aircraft, with a list price of
$7,995. 04-27-2008. |
