Airservices Australia Wants to Revamp Towers with New Technology
Airservices Australia is releasing a tender for new communications and equipment that would be required
as part of a control tower technology upgrade program, codenamed Project
Mercury, which could involve as many as 26 airports.
Preliminary tender documents released by Airservices, and made public by
Australian IT, indicate that the
modernization program would be carried out in three phases: The first would
involve building new control towers at Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and
Rockhampton; the second would install new hardware and software in these new
towers before doing the same at the remaining sites; and the third would assess
the possibility for refurbishing and refitting towers at other sites operated by
Airservices.
The project will also include a new ADMS (aeronautical data management system) database.
Airservices says suppliers will only be guaranteed contracts to provide equipment and technical service at
the four new towers being built under the program's first phase. Furthermore,
the contractor will be required to provide training to controllers and maintenance
staff.
The successful bidder may secure additional work to supply equipment at remaining sites once the third
phase of the program is completed, according to AirServices. 01-30-2008. |
