Airbus to Study Integrated ACSS Surveillance Offering on Some Models
Airbus has agreed to study
the certification of ACSS's integrated TCAS (traffic alert and collision
avoidance system), TAWS (terrain awareness warning system) and Mode-S
transponder on the A320 and on the A330/A340 aircraft families.
The product, called T3CAS,
would become aviation's only surveillance platform to integrate these three
safety functions into a single LRU (line-replaceable unit) with a 6- MCU
(modular concept unit) form factor. ACSS expects certification will be achieved
by the end of 2009.
For Airbus, the system would
become a baseline for hosting future ADS-B (automatic dependent
surveillance-broadcast) "In" functionality on their aircraft, such as ITP
(in-trail procedures) and ATSAW (air traffic situational awareness). (ADS-B
"In" refers to receiving ADS-B "Out" information from other nearby aircraft.)

Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems (ACSS); the remaining 30% is
owned by Thales. 06-23-2007. |
