AirCell Expects to Offer Cockpit Datalink Services By Year's End
AirCell expects to offer a new DIU (data interface unit) by the end of the year
that will allow its customers to use their existing AirCell satellite
communications system to obtain datalinked information in the cockpit from two
compatible third-party providers.
AirCell's new DIU will allow its satcom
customers to access either Honeywell’s Global Data Center (GDC) or Satcom
Direct’s FlightDeck Freedom.
Honeywell's
GDC offers flight support that includes flight plans, runway analysis,
oceanic clearances, weather reports and forecasts, winds aloft, air traffic
services, automatic position reporting and event triggers, and two-way
messaging. Other services available through the GDC include its
OneLink cabin services,
Flight Sentinel operational specialists,
WINN graphical weather, and international trip services.
Satcom Direct's
FlightDeck Freedom offers datalink services such as PDC (pre-departure
clearance), D-ATIS (digital-automatic terminal information service), text and
graphical weather, flight plans, and text message delivery from service partners
that include
Universal Weather,
Skyplan,
