AirCell Axxess II to Be Optional on Hawker 750 and 900XP
AirCell's Axxess satellite communications system will be offered as an option on new
Hawker 900XPs and Hawker 750s, based on a STC (supplemental type certificate)
developed by Hawker Beechcraft Corporation's designated alteration station at
Little Rock.
AirCell describes
Axxess as a family of multi-channel, satcom systems aimed at medium-to-large
business aircraft that were designed with a "network neutral" philosophy,
meaning they can be more easily upgraded as new technologies and links - such as
broadband - become available. (See related story.)
Axxess comes standard with two built-in channels of Iridium satellite communications
for worldwide voice services with full PBX (private branch exchange)
functionality. Also standard are AirCell's new, handsets with large, color
displays and noise reduction technology, and standard ear bud/headset jacks.
Its wireless capabilities include a full 802.11b/g Wi-Fi "hotspot" which, when paired with a
broadband connection, such as Inmarsat or AirCell broadband (coming in
2008), can be used to with personal laptops and other devices. Integrated
expansion ports will allow up to two additional Iridium channels if desired.
