AirAsia X Contracts with Thales for A330 Avionics and IFE Package

AirAsia X has contracted with Thales to supply several components for its 15 new A330-300s, including satcom and IFE (in-flight entertainment) systems.  The airline also has options for 10 more of the Airbus model.

Under the agreement, Thales will supply the Malaysian-based long-haul, low-cost airline with its TopSeries in-seat IFE, its TopFlight Swift Satcom, as well as its the latest generation FMS (flight management system), T2CAS (terrain and traffic collision avoidance system) and Mode S (select) transponder.

The TopSeries in-seat hardware will include a power connector and USB (universal serial bus) port, as well as an 8.9-inch touch-screen display.

Swift Satcom will give AirAsia X full connectivity for both cabin and flight-deck. Thales Satcom, in partnership with On Air, will provide a suite of services that will allow passengers to take advantage of Wi-Fi Internet and voice transmission during flight.

Thales will support AirAsia X in after sales, repair and maintenance via its Thales Repair by-the-hour and Turn Key Maintenance package for 15 years.  12-10-2007.
