Air Logistics to Use Iridium Tracking and Communications

Air Logistics is equipping 125 of its helicopters with Iridium-based satellite systems to enable voice communications and automatic flight following when operating to oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska.

The rotary wing aircraft will be equipped with Sky Connect MMUs (mission management units) to enable voice and text communications as well as tracking capability with a single-switch control.  With the system, Air Logistics crew members can send standard preprogrammed text messages and flight plans that include such things as the number of passengers or current fuel load.
