Air Greenland Uses Blue Sky Network to Track and Communicate With Fleet

Air Greenland has deployed Blue Sky Network's equipment on 17 of its rotor and fixed-wing aircraft to provide a near real-time GPS mapping of their location and give its pilots a live voice channel when they're flying in remote, unpopulated regions.

The airline installed Blue Sky's D1000A terminals and ACH1000 control heads on eight of its Eurocopter AS350's, eight Bell helicopters, and a King Air BE200.

Blue Sky Network's SkyRouter passes operational data, including GPS location information, from the aircraft's communications' terminal to Air Greenland's ground personnel via Iridium satellites.

Before installing this equipment, Air Greenland's pilots manually reported their position with a voice contact every 15 minutes; this workload is now eliminated.  03-04-2007.
