Air China Gets Approval for Airbus RNP Operations
Air China received approval to conduct
RNP (required navigation performance) operations with its A319s, and
flew its first RNP departure from Lhasa, China, on August 23, marking the first
time an Airbus aircraft has used RNP in revenue service.
The airline worked with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the European Aviation Safety
Agency (EASA), Airbus and
Naverus in achieving this milestone.
While allowing flights into
terrain-challenged airport's that are otherwise prohibited during periods of
restricted visibility, RNP can reduce fuel burn on virtually all departures and
arrivals at any airport by ensuring that aircraft equipped with its capability
consistently fly pre-programmed paths with precision. 08-24-2007. |
