ARINC Offering New Global Weather Radar Service for Epic Cockpits
ARINC Direct is introducing what it calls "an entirely new graphical weather radar service
for business jet operators," that includes coverage of major world regions where
aviation weather radar data has not previously been available.
The new Expanded Weather Radar service, which ARINC says is available immediately, is
offered to ARINC Direct customers operating business aircraft equipped with
Honeywell Epic avionics.
In addition to the contiguous U.S., the initial service will cover Alaska, Hawaii, Canada,
Puerto Rico, Western Europe, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Guam. By the end of
2007, ARINC Direct expects to phase in additional coverage in East Asia
including Malaysia, China, and Taiwan.
Bob Richard, ARINC Direct's senior director said worldwide weather data such as this service
has never been readily available before to any operators.
Besides offering expanded geographic coverage, the service also improves on conventional
weather radar by providing accurate overlays of the true local radar coverage,
ARINC says. This outline feature allows pilots to identify parts of a flight
path where severe weather might develop without being detected by ground radar.
ARINC Direct has added the service to its
flight service portfolio, making it available at no extra cost (other than
standard transmission charges) to customers who subscribe to ARINC's graphical
cockpit weather service that already provides world-wide winds aloft
information, satellite images and continental U.S. radar returns. 09-25-2007. |
