ARINC Expanding VHF Datalink Coverage in Middle East and Africa
ARINC says it will accelerate its planned investment in the Middle East and Africa by building out
an extensive network of VHF air-ground stations there, and add to its AviNet
communications network.
The Annapolis-based company, which is now part of The Carlyle Group, previously installed two new
VHF stations at Bahrain and Dubai that are already operational. It now plans an
aggressive rollout of VHF stations across the region, but soon will also deploy
new VHF stations at Nairobi, Johannesburg, and Cape Town.
This significant expansion of VHF infrastructure in the coming months will add to ARINC's already considerable
VHF voice and datalink coverage for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). The company has also just expanded the capacity of its AviNet core global
network by the addition of two new network nodes in Dubai.
ARINC says its
AviNet network carries half of the world's air operational communications
and has served commercial airlines and government organizations for more than 70
years. It also carries a major share of electronic business communications such
as Type B networking to support the aviation and travel industries. The company
believes its expanded network capacity at Dubai will now enable it to offer
other new communications services in the region.
One innovation,
AviNet Mail, has already proven successful in EMEA, adding over 650
mailboxes in the last 2 years, ARINC says, and has attracted well-known
corporate names such as PWC Aviation, Z Aviation Services, UAS, Palm Aviation,
and Hadid International, to its messaging service.
AviNet now switches 3 billion IATA messages a year (40% of the world's Type B messaging traffic), and supports
all the major protocols and IATA formats, according to ARINC. It carries 65% of
the world's air operational communications, as well as satellite broadband
services. 11-15-2007. |
